If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to take on a One Room Challenge project, you’re in for a treat! I recently decided to help transform parents-to-be guest room into a cozy, functional nursery — blending creativity, interior design strategy, and a few DIY lessons learned along the way. Follow along as I share behind-the-scenes details, design challenges, and tips from my nursery transformation journey.

I’ve been keeping busy lately, and I’m so excited to share something special with you all! A few weeks ago, I joined the One Room Challenge (ORC) — a nationwide event that invites interior designers, DIYers, and home enthusiasts to transform a space in just eight weeks. For my project, I decided to take on a guest room-to-nursery transformation, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it’s coming together!

We’re now in week two (almost three!), and if you’re not familiar with the ORC, it happens twice a year and was originally created by Linda Weinstein in 2011. It’s the perfect challenge for anyone passionate about interior design, DIY projects, or simply looking to push themselves creatively. What makes the experience so rewarding is the supportive community — everyone cheers each other on, shares progress, and offers inspiration through the ups and downs of the process. It’s also an amazing way to grow your social media presence and connect with other design lovers.

Nursery Decorating Tips

Now, let’s talk about one of my favorite (and sometimes frustrating!) parts of the process — painting. While painting is usually therapeutic for me, this time it came with a few surprises. No one warned me that paint can still sneak under painter’s tape! I took every precaution — pressing the tape firmly and smoothing every edge — yet somehow, those little leaks still managed to appear. My inner perfectionist couldn’t handle it, so yes… I repainted several areas until everything looked just right.

The next hurdle was the extension rod fiasco. If you’ve ever painted a ceiling, you know exactly what I mean! My rod wouldn’t stay locked in place, and the neck strain was real. I could’ve made a quick trip to Lowe’s for a replacement, but I didn’t want to lose momentum. Lesson learned — next time I’ll invest in a paint sprayer, because that would have saved me hours and a lot of sore muscles!

Despite the hiccups, I’m proud to say I finished the ceiling myself — no backup from my husband this time! And even though there were moments I wanted to give up, seeing the space come together has made it all worth it.

This nursery design project has been such a fun reminder that every room transformation comes with its challenges — but also so much reward.
